The vision for the Children’s Ministry here at Rogue Valley Fellowship is found in the book of Matthew where Jesus says, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14-15). In this passage of Scripture we see first, that children will naturally come to Christ as He is presented accurately. We believe that it is of the utmost importance that Jesus is correctly presented to children so that they can see Him clearly.
By accurately we mean how the Scriptures present Him, seen in His deity, His humanity, His love and perfection. It is our desire that Jesus Christ stands out above all others in this world. As Jesus said in John 12:32, “if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.” Therefore, we will lift up the name of Jesus in our curriculum, songs, crafts, and activities so that each child has a clear view and path to Jesus.
Secondly, we can see from this passage that we are to remove hindrances. Hindrances are obstacles that keep children from understanding and experiencing the full love of Christ.
As it was then, and still is now, many of these hindrances come from well meaning disciples who fail to have a biblical understanding of Christ and His mission. Other hindrances come in the form of negative experiences in church due to lack of proper care or security. Therefore, it is our goal to have teachers who have a true biblical understanding of Jesus Christ and His mission, as well as helpers who can provide safety and loving care for each child.
Lastly we see that Jesus says,”…the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these…” and we want to make sure that our children belong to the Kingdom of Heaven.
So in short, our mission is to present Jesus Christ accurately and to protect children form hindrances so that each child has the opportunity to see Him and come, “to feel and understand, as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how deep, and how high his love really is; and to experience this love for themselves…” (Ephesians 3:18 TLB)
